Tree House Families

At Potton Primary School, we believe in fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork amongst our children, which is why we have established a system of six houses.

Our houses, named after different trees to reflect our school's theme of a growing tree and the flight of birds, are as follows: Ash (Yellow), Birch (Green), Elm (Orange), Oak (Red), Sycamore (Purple), and Willow (Blue). Each child joins one of these houses upon their entry to our school, and they will remain there throughout their time at Potton Primary.

The purpose of our house system (Tree House Families) is not only to encourage friendly competition but also to promote our core school values (being ready, respectful and responsible). Children can earn house points by demonstrating these values, going above and beyond in their work, and showcasing the best versions of themselves. Points are awarded for positive behaviours such as cooperation, kindness, and perseverance.

The house points accumulated throughout the week are tallied, and this results in the weekly awarding of the prestigious House Cup. This exciting event is a source of motivation for our children, fostering both individual and collective achievement. Furthermore, at the end of each half-term, the house with the most points will be rewarded with a special prize, recognising their efforts and dedication.

Each half term, children spend an afternoon in their Tree Houses. These are special themed afternoons, where children from Early Years to Year 6 work together on a shared activity. Our most recent Tree House Afternoons involved; making sock puppets, creating mindfulness posters, and designing a Tree House flag!

Throughout the year, we also take part in inter-school competitions, culminating in Sports Day in the Summer term. This year, Sports Day was won by Sycamore House!
