Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
At Potton Primary School, within the Early Years, we believe that every child is unique. They are constantly learning they can be; capable, independent, confident and self-assured. When carefully supported by confident adults it is our mission that children flourish and develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime. We believe that no matter a child’s background, circumstance or need, all children have a right to learn and achieve.
The early years of a child’s development are crucial, and at Potton Primary School, we foster a holistic approach to each child’s individual learning during those years. Our experienced and enthusiastic staff set about laying sure foundations for each child, nurturing the love of learning to ensure children are happy, confident and secure. We aim to guide our children to become self-motivated, confident learners.
Children in the Early Years develop; morally, socially, culturally and begin to understand what makes them who they are.
The statutory framework for the EYFS sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5 years. The guidance within the EYFS framework ensures that early years leaders, practitioners, teachers, teaching assistants, and childminders, can effectively support and nurture the learning and development of children in their setting, from birth to five years of age.
Play, and more importantly learning through play, is an essential part of the Early Years Foundation Stage. As children move into the reception year, a greater emphasis is placed on learning skills that will support and prepare children for the learning expectations in Year 1.
