Environment and Sustainability
🌱 Our Commitment to the Environment and Sustainability
At Potton Primary School, we are passionate about nurturing a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainability across our school community.

Introducing Our Eco Committee
We’re proud to launch our new Eco Committee, made up of enthusiastic representatives—one child from each class—who are dedicated to making a difference. The committee has already held its first meeting, where members explored biodiversity within our school grounds, investigated local wildlife habitats, and began discussing the impact of plastic pollution on both local and global scales. Their ideas and energy are helping us shape a greener future, starting right here in our school. As a committee, we have already come of up with our action plan for the year. You can find this in the downloads section at the bottom of the page.
Carbon Action Plan
Leading our sustainability efforts is Mr Boyd, who has taken on the role of Sustainability Lead. He has developed our school’s Carbon Action Plan, which outlines how we aim to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a greener future. A huge thank you to Let's Go Zero for supporting the creation of the plan. The plan is attached below.
This work aligns with the Department for Education’s sustainability and climate change strategy, which requires all education settings in England to have a nominated sustainability lead and a climate action plan in place by the end of 2025. Our plan will focus on areas such as energy efficiency, biodiversity, climate education, and reducing carbon emissions. [Sustainabi...education]
Green Flag Award 2026
🌱 We’re a Green Flag School – with Distinction! 🌱
We are incredibly proud to share the fantastic news that Potton Primary School has been awarded the Eco‑Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction for 2026.
This award celebrates the commitment, enthusiasm and hard work of our pupils, staff and wider school community in caring for the environment and making a real difference.
The assessors were particularly impressed by how much we have raised the profile of environmental awareness across the school, with pupils showing real pride, responsibility and enthusiasm for eco‑friendly actions. Our Eco‑Committee was highly praised for becoming such a popular and purposeful group, with children enjoying being directly involved in leading change.
They also highlighted the transformation of our sensory garden and courtyard garden, which are now welcoming, calming spaces for everyone to enjoy. These areas have had a hugely positive impact on pupils’ wellbeing, providing calm places to learn, reflect and connect with nature.
This award is a wonderful recognition of how our pupils are helping to shape a greener, more sustainable future – and how proud they are to be Eco‑Champions for our school.
A huge thank you to our Eco‑Committee, Gardening Club, staff and families for your continued support. We’re excited to keep building on this success next year!
🌿 Well done, Potton Primary School! 🌿
